Franz Ferdinand, Scotland’s sensational indie rock and post punk revival artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Rebel (Sound Academy)!
The band was formed in Glasgow in 2002 by Alex Kapranos (lead vocals and guitar, keyboard), Nick McCarthy (rhythm guitar, keyboards and backing vocals), Bob Hardy (bass guitar), and Paul Thomson (drums, percussion and backing vocals). The band’s name is a reference to the Archduke Franz Ferdinand and Alex said in an interview, “He was an incredible figure….His life, or at least the ending of it, was the catalyst for the complete transformation of the world and that is what we want our music to be. But I don't want to over-intellectualize the name thing. Basically a name should just sound good … like music.” They’ve had a stellar career with 5 studio albums, 2 live albums, 1 compilation albums, 1 video album, 22 music videos, 7 extended plays, 27 singles, and 1 remix album. They’ve received many accolades including a Mercury Prize, an Ivor Novello Award (for Best Contemporary Song), 3 NME Awards (for Best Track, Best Album, and Best Live Band), a NME Philip Hall Radar Award, a MTV Award (for Breakthrough Video), a Q Award (for Best Video), 2 Brit Awards (for Best Group and Best British Rock Act), and 2 Meteor Music Awards (for Best International Group and Best International Album). They’ve also been nominated for 4 Grammy Awards (2 for Best Alternative Album and 2 for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal).
