Kaleo, Iceland’s sensational indie folk rock artists are bringing their signature sounds to Rebel (Sound Academy)!
The band was formed in Mosfellsbær (a town in south-west Iceland) in 2012 by Jökull Júlíusson (vocals, guitar), Davíð Antonsson (percussion, vocals), Daníel Ægir Kristjánsson (bass), and Rubin Pollock (guitar, vocals). Their musical style is heavily influenced by folk and blues and they started to make a name for themselves after performing at the Iceland Airwaves Music Festival in November 2012. The released their debut single (Vor í Vaglaskógi) in 2013 and it wasn’t long before it was featured on the local radio station’s top 10 list. Their 2014 single (All the Pretty Girls) was streamed over 23 million times on Spotify and its success led to them getting a record deal with Atlantic Records in early 2015. Their next single (Way Down We Go) hit #8 on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Songs chart and #3 on its Hot Rock Songs chart. That year Kaleo was the supporting act for Australian singer-songwriter Vance Joy and they also played at South by Southwest (SXSW) 2015. Their performance landed them a spot on Esquire magazine’s list of ‘40 Bands You Need to Hear’. Their music has been featured in many TV series (Trapped, Orange Is the New Black, Suits, Blindspot) and on the soundtrack for FIFA 16.
