Lil Yachty (birth name Miles Parks McCollum) was born in Mableton (Georgia) in 1997 and is a rapper, singer, and songwriter. He moved to New York City to pursue a music career and started to build a large following on Instagram. His breakthrough came in 2015 when one of his track (Minnesota) was played on Drake's OVO Sound Radio show. His musical style is best described as a blend of hip hop and trap (a subgenre of Southern hip hop that originated in the 1990s and is characterized by ominous lyrics, heavy kick drums from a Roland TR 808 synthesizer, double time division hi hats, and layered synthesizers). He calls his style “bubblegum trap” and he said in an interview, I've got songs that sample Mario Bros., Charlie Brown, the Rugrats theme, the music that plays when you turn on a Gamecube." He’s had a stellar career with 5 music videos, 2 extended plays, 11 singles, and he’s collaborated with Wintertime Zi, 88rising, Digital Nas, Quavo, Skippa Da Flippa and Young Thug, Mike Will Made It, Carly Rae Jepsen, Migos, D.R.A.M, and many other renowned artists. He’s received many accolades including a Grammy Award nomination (for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration) and his debut studio album (Teenage Emotions) comes out on May 26th 2017.
