Sensational electronica artists Thievery Corporation are bringing their signature sounds to the Rebel Toronto!
Thievery Corporation was formed in Washington D.C in 1995 by DJs Rob Garza and Eric Hilton. They were both really fond of the club life along with dub, bossa nova and jazz music. They wanted to see what would happen if they mixed these genres in a recording studio and in 1996 they formed the Eighteenth Street Lounge Music record label. Over the years their music has evolved to become a blend of dub, acid jazz, reggae, Indian classical, Middle Eastern, hip hop, electronica, and bossa nova. They also expanded Thievery Corporation into a DJ collective that features Rob Myers, Loulou Ghelichkhani, Natalia Clavier, Frank 'Booty Lock' Mitchell, Mr. Lif, Jeff Franca, and Ashish Vyas, as supporting artists. They’ve had a stellar career with 9 studio albums, 18 studio albums, and 31 singles. They’ve recorded songs in many languages such as English, Spanish, French, Italian, Persian, Portuguese, Romanian and Hindi. They’ve had the honour of being the opening act for Sir Paul McCartney and they’ve also collaborated with renowned artists such as Perry Farrell, David Byrne, and Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips. Thievery Corporation also takes a strong political stance by strongly opposing war, exploitative trade agreements, and by supporting human rights and food aid.
